Evaluation

This semester in some way was kind of relax. But the bad thing is that at the end of this semester, teachers gave us a lot of work, essay, a documentary, a script, a lot of presentationsm, a lot of books to read! And the worst thing is that teachers think that their subject it is the most important, so they send us a lot of thinks to do. Also, some of them say 'you are studing english, so you tell to the other teachers that they don't have to give you a lot of homework' but it couldn't be, because I feel that is a kind of disrespectful from my part. It is so difficult!

Now, Miss Bea:
I love your classes. I know that I am kind of lazy, but I really enjoy your classes. Specially, because we don't use to much the book. Also, you are so funny and very nice. I fell that you really care about us, and that is very important.
That what I said in the first paragraph, it's because that happen a lot at the end of semester. Why do they this at the end of semester? Is it a kind of torture?
The last two weeks I haven't sleep well, and that makes me feel under the weather.
Well, the important issue is that you are a great teacher, thanks for be patient with us, with me, and for caring about us.

a big hug for you!

Happines and Life Satisfaction

Subjective Life Satisfaction is a kind of measure of well-being in terms of quality of your life.  It is usually perceive by individuals about their own life. Life satisfaction it is related with happiness or well-being as a synonym, however Life Satisfaction is a slightly different between them, and well-being it is so broad.
Happiness is more like an estate of your mind; you can feel happy, because of love, religion, friendship, money, etc.  And well- being is about the quality of life of a society or about the international relationships. You do not have to confuse it with standard of living.
They are considering important, because the people work better when they are happy or they have a good quality of life. Also happy people are healthier than sad people. Happy people have more energy, are more creative and they have a good mood.  Happiness is applied in different ways, for example: at works, they have a moment in which people do exercise. The exercise helps you to create endorphin, the happiness hormone, so that workers can be more relaxed to go back to work again.
Well I do not know if this think about the exercise and the happiness is real, because I have not check it yet. I mean, my doctor says that it is possible to get relax and feel happier with exercise, but I am so lazy to check it. I think that could be true.
My happiest moments in my life had happen with my family. When my sisters born, at Christmas, etc. I remember really well, when we spent our first Christmas without gifts. At the beginning was sad, but then we realized that we enjoy more our family moment without gifts. My mom was so happy about our behavior; we were a very sweet lady gilrs.

The Catcher in the Rye By J.D.Salinger (813 S164c c.1)

The book that I read this week was “The Catcher in the Rye” by J.D. Salinger. In my view, this book gives you a pretty good idea about youth.  As always, being young it never was easy. But that does not means that young people do not think about the troubles of the people. And Holden Caulfield – who is 17 - is telling us about his thought about the people. He said some kinds of things that are really true.
Holden, when he was 16, had been expelling from 4 different schools. He is always complaining about people. This is because people are phony, egocentric and selfish, but as in everywhere, we found good people who do not expect anything as gratitude. Holden had roommates who were very superficial, and teachers, too. Also, all the girls that he knew were so silly, but the only exception was Jane, a childhood friend. I think that in our lives we meet some kind of people who are stupid and superficial, because the society makes them in that horrible way. For example, models are very superficial, and the most of them are looking for well off men who maintain them.
On the other hand, Holden meet two nuns who were traveling to New York to be teachers in a poor school. They want help poor people to get studies. Holden was taking breakfast with them, but he felt that they deserve a good breakfast, so he offered them to pay their breakfast, but they said that it was not necessary and they really appreciated his goodness. So, Holden decided to give them some money to help them and help their children. This kind of goodness is great. We need to know when we need something and when not. The nuns are really humble people; they eat just the necessary, and the rest it is for their poor children. We must give without expect anything as reward.
In conclusion, even if your life it is hard when you are young, it does not mean that you cannot make a difference in the society. Sometime the small acts of kindness are a big way to help people. Holden could hate fake people, as me, but we know that in somewhere there are good people who are working for a better world. In spite of the evilness in the world, I think that we have the power to change our reality.

My favourites Web Pages

Well, I have two favourites’ web pages which are: www.facebook.com  and www.tvyserie.com. I heard talk about Facebook two years ago, when I was in a CPECH, one of my old high school friends told me that Facebook is a really good way to find old friends that you thought were missing, and also, you can play games and this kind of things. At the beginning, I was not so enthusiasm, but then, when I really meet Facebook, I realized that nothing it will be more fun than Facebook is. On the other hand, I am a fan of TV series, and before I did not have cable TV, so with my sister found a great page with all our favourites TV series such as, Smallville, The Vampire Diaries, Glee, Supernatural and Gossip Girl. I like the first one, because I have everything that I want, such as chat, games, upload photos, post photos, I can watch videos and upload it, too. Also, I can keep in touch with friends who are not in Chile. In a few words, it is like have messenger, fotolog, my space, youtube and games online just in one page. It is awesome!  And TVyserie, because I watch The Vampire Diaries before than everybody in Chile.  I always am surfing in both pages. Every single day.

Good ideas to improve the public education

I found in internet “the big Eight” which are ideas to improve the public education. I put just four, because the article in too long. This article is for parents, students and schools. Because, without them, the change in public education is not possible.
1) Encourage and strengthen charter schools, vouchers, homeschooling, and all types of private schools, because diversity and competition is a sure way to have improvement.
2) All teachers must major in the subjects they teach. Just as nurses have degrees in Nursing, biology teachers must have degrees in Biology. (At present many unprepared teachers are told to teach subjects they know little about.)
3) Support fast-track alternative credentialing. If smart, educated people want to leave other fields to be teachers, all they really need is several months of classroom training. Grab these people and put them to work as soon as possible.
4) Make schools safe and secure. School boards and principals must be held responsible for eliminating violence from schools. (There is far more violence in public schools that most people realize; and it seems to be tacitly accepted. Zero-tolerance seems to be a cynical ploy to distract people from the real problem, which is children committing acts that adults would be jailed for. A pill in a purse is not the problem. Assault and battery is the problem. INTENTIONAL physical injury is the problem.)
From m y point of view, I think that take in account those tips are really good. There are other ideas such as stopping the racism, checking if the teacher is improving in his/her specialty. Nowadays, public schools are not making the enough effort to improve their education, but I must say that this effort is necessary from parents and students, too.

Make a difference

When we talk about to make a difference, it is something really difficult to do, because there are a lot of people that could be very selfish. As I saw in the video, the sir who was talking said things very interesting about the way to have family in a intelligent way. The options that gave the gentleman were innovatives and pleasing to the people. I think we should find the way to create ideas that make a difference, provided they won’t make us lose our identity. Because every thing we try to "invent" is result of something already made by a foreign. First of all, we can treat of explaining what is the culture teaching it with our culture first and then show other examples. For instance, we can show how the Mapuches’ culture is, teaching their origins and their meanings. On the other hand, we must realize that creating a union among our own people is difficult. Because, now people are individualistic and think only in their social circle. We must find the way that we will be all motivated by the same reason. I think a good example is the Teletón. Because, when we are in those two days, the only thing that matters is that we achieve the goal of helping children to have a future life more prosperous and happier. Moreover, we ourselves feel more Chileans, because we help our unfortunate countrymen. We are proud that because we gave a part of our money, despite what it cost us to get it. And we tend to inflate the chest and say "I helped the Teletón this year, because that is what the Chileans do." More than that, I think we tend to unite us for a cause, trying to make a difference, but the problem is that we be released from our origins, and we need to change.

Leave Out All The Rest - By Linkin Park

Leave All the rest - Linkin Park

The first time that I heard this song was two years ago, because is part of the Twilight soundtrack ( a movie based by a Stephenie Meyer's book). I downloaded the soundtrack, and when the song began, I felt into my heart that song was writting for me. Something that struck my attention was the melody and the lyric. I think that in any moment you felt that you were lost, and you needed someone else save you from yourself. Fortunately, I've always had a person who is saving me from my bad decisions.

This song was wrote by Linking Park, an American band from L.A., California. Their style is metal, alternative rock and rap metal. Chester BenningtonMike Shinoda, Joe Hahn, Brad Delson, Rob Bourdon and David Farrell.

Leave Out All the Rest

Twilight - Crepúsculo

I dreamed I was missing
You were so scared
But no one would listen
Cause no one else cared
After my dreaming
I woke with this fear
What am I leaving
When I'm done here
So if you're asking me
I want you to know
When my time comes
Forget the wrong that I've done
Help me leave behind some
Reasons to be missed
And don't resent me
And when you're feeling empty
Keep me in your memory
Leave out all the rest
Leave out all the rest
Don't be afraid
I've taken my beating
I've shared what I made
I'm strong on the surface
Not all the way through
I've never been perfect
But neither have you
So if you're asking me
I want you to know
When my time comes
Forget the wrong that I've done
Help me leave behind some
Reasons to be missed
Don't resent me
And when you're feeling empty
Keep me in your memory
Leave out all the rest
Leave out all the rest
Forgetting
All the hurt inside
You've learned to hide so well
Pretending
Someone else can come and save me from myself
I can't be who you are
When my time comes
Forget the wrong that I've done
Help me leave behind some
Reasons to be missed
Don't resent me
And when you're feeling empty
Keep me in your memory
Leave out all the rest
Leave out all the rest
Forgetting
All the hurt inside
You've learned to hide so well
Pretending
Someone else can come and save me from myself
I can't be who you are
I can't be who you are

Man who killed and raped his niece never will be freed (U.K.)

4 October 2010 Last updated at 15:06 GMT
John Maden, 37 years old, who was obsessed with child pornography and violent sex, murdered his 12 years old niece. He will be in jail for life for his crime.

Maden went to his sister's house in Cheetham Hill, because he would be the babysitter of his niece. When he arrived to the house, John was drugged, and when he was alone with the teenager, he tortured, raped and killed her.
Later, John called police himself with "chilling calm". When officers arrived, Maden was very quiet and explained how he did the crime. John pleaded guilty. Police said he would not have the chance to change his sentence.  Maden later told police he heard "voices" in his head (one good voice and one bad voice),  but admitted the rape and murder of his niece.

The Judge said it was an unacceptable act of violence. Tia Rigg's death is totally unjustifiable, and is a bad way to realize about the dangers that surround our children.

My Chilean Identity

What is your opinion regarding this?
I think that it is a good idea celebrated this bicentenary, but we must thing in people who are suffering now, too. For instance, earthquake's victims, Mapuches who are in hunger strike and of course, the miners. In spite of Mapuches' situation have a solution, we cannot do more now. It is a waste of time to becoming bitter, because the injustices  that are hapenning.
What do you know about our native people? Did you learn about them at school?
Yes, I learn about them at school, but the basic. I mean, where they lived, how they lived, and this kinds of things. Nowadays, anybody teach you how is their situation, which are their problems or how they confront their troubles.
Do you identify with them in any way?
No. I don't think that I have something similar with them. It's not discrimination is that I find we don't have nothing in common.
What Chilean characteristics do you or don't you have?
I like dancing cueca, when I dance cueca is like a passion.
What things make you proud to be Chilean, and what things make you feel ashamed?
There are a lots of problems, stupid problems would not exist, such as mapuches' problems or miners' problems, there is the solution to both problems, but t6he big problem is a decadent government.
In your opinion, what is the so called "Chilean culture"?
I have learned that the chilean culture is almost extinct, because that "roto chileno", he was that "huaso bruto" who did you enjoy the chilean dance, that chilean tap well-done. That was the chilean culture. Now, I don't know.

Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban.... By J.K. Rowling

I think that all of us have heard talking about Harry Potter. In the third part of his story, Harry realized about three main issues: Fist, A guy called Sirius Black was who denounced Harry’s parents to Lord Voldemort, causing Harry’s parents dead and killing a lot of people, among them, one of the best friends of his father – called Peter Pettigrew – and now he escaped from the magic jail, Azkaban. Second, Sirius Black was the best friend of his dad, James Potter, and he is Harry’s Godfather. Finally, Peter Pettigrew wasn’t dead, he pretend be dead, because he wanted to blame Sirius of murdered Harry’s parents. First of all, Sirius Black was blaming unjustly. He fell in a trap. Sirius never has killed anybody, Peter did it. Because he was who denounced Harry’s parents, and he was who killing a lot of people. Sirius was there because he wanted to catch to Peter, he was the traitor and he ought to pay for his betrayal. When Harry heard the real story, the only that he want is that Peter will be prisoner in Azkaban as Sirius was. Also, Harry wants to clean his godfather name, and finally go to live with him, with the best friend of his father without his uncle and aunt and cousin. Nevertheless, he couldn’t make his dream came true, because Petter run away, and now Sirius have to be hidden. In the past, there has been the situation in which innocent people were blamed for crimes that they didn’t commit. The main lesson of the third Harry Potter’s book is that everything is not what it seems. You should make sure you have all parts of the story.

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

Santiago is a shepherd of sheeps, who dreams with travel around the world. In his journey he met a lot of people.
First of all, Santiago meets a gypsy, and she interpret a dream of him. She said him that he should go to the Egyptian piramids, because in that place, he is going to find his Personal Story, a treasure. She makes him think about the importance of dreams. This relationship was short, but was deep, because she was the person who showed him the meaning of his dream. A dream that would bring him great aventures. Sometimes we need that someone tell us something that makes us take control of our lives.
The second person that he meets in a little town near of Andalucía city, was a King, Salem's King. This king  teach him about his soul, he said to Santiago that he needs learning the world's language. Is a different way to know your self an know things such as the desert, the sheeps, the wind, the sky. And above all, he needs to learn trusting in his dream, because the universe is helping him now to realize his porpuse. In this relationship, Santiago find the courage and go to live his life as he always wanted. Almost all the time, we need that incentive.
The third relationship was with a guy who at the end was a thief. That happen in Santiago's first day in Africa. It were a bar, so Santiago came into that place, because he needed help. The thief taught him  that he can not trust in everybody and no get depressed because someone steals everything you have. Santiago just think that he has two hands, two legs and he was strong to keep working. I think that in that way we can overcome our problems.
In his fourth relationship he met a glass seller. He was a loner and his store was going wrong, because de jars glass were dirty. Santiago worked with the seller, and the seller told to Santiago about his life. Satiago learn about the seller that some people are dreamers, and they live to dream. Some people need have dreams because without them, they do not have reason to live. At the beginning, Santiago did not understand why someone do not want to live his o her dream, but then he understood; some people are happy dreaming. This relationship in particular, caught my attention because it seems to me like my relationship with my mom. She always is dreaming, but she do not do anything to achieve it. Anyway, she is constantly pushing me the whole time because she knows that I am different, that I can make my dreams come true.
Generally, this book is about your capacity to realize your goals. It is about how we communicate with the world. Communication are not just words is about our souls, our ability to feel everything in this planet, and with the communication  and could realize our dreams and never stop, because nobody is going to fight for our dreams, for our own story. Just we need keep moving foward. For us.

It's a great brook. Enjoy it!

Visual DNA Test!::: I'm a Wild Cat!!::::

Well, to me is always fun doing a test. This one was more entertainment to do because have images that really makes you feel interested. Something that strikes my attention was that in the most of the information that was given to me about my self was true.

About my mood, it said that I’m a romantic person and a little nostalgic. That is true! I am a dreamer. Nevertheless, that characteristic is not the only one on me. I mean, I am an artist, and that makes me feel more romantic and sensitive. I love traveling because that is a good way to think. Besides, when you are traveling, is a good chance to get more artistic ideas.

The information about me, I mean, in the results, was almost right, because I do not drink. I only drink fizzy drinks or natural juice.

At last, something that catched my attention was that in the test’s results said that I am a fun person, who tries making good moments when I was with my friends, because I rather hear laughs than have serious moments.

Thanks to this page, I learned more vocabulary. For example: Buzz --> the sound that a bee does when is flying. Naughty --> is when you don’t have a good behavior but you just joking. Beat--> is like hit.

Some people could say that tests or quizzes are a waste of time, but I think that is a way to get relax and fun.

Love U!

My Winter Break!!

Hi!

My winter break was not so entertaining. I must say that was so quite and boring. At least, I could rest a lot and I had time to think about my student life, addmore I was painting a portrait of my sisters and I.

I had time to share time with my friends. Damaris, Estefanìa and Pancha. We were to the Mall. We ate an ice cream, we were walking around and talking about ours very quiet holidays until then. Besides, we were in "Cero Grados" an ice skating rink. We did not skate, but we were watching people on the ice rink, and then we were listening music from a karaoke! People were signing with passion, but I wish they were singing better. I am just kidding, was great that feeling because in that moment did not matter how much good are you as a singer, the most important think was the enthusiasm. My dear friend Panchita was who represented us. She sang “Basket Case” of Green Day band. We got a lot of fun because she was very involved in her character, even she said ‘singing everybody!!’ And everybody applauded her.

I think that my winter break was interesting just because I spent time with my friends.

XOXO
Javiera
